Cranes could not access the lift site at a German refinery in June as the plant was surrounded on four sides piperacks. The problem, therefore, was how to lift in a 655t reactor.

Lastra devised a method using a gantry which was erected over a piperack and a special tailing device to skid underneath. During erection the reactor had just 10mm clearance between the piperacks.

On top of the gantry was placed a frame with a pair of 500t strandjacks. These could be skidded in two direction over the main gantry girders.
