An 800t capacity Demag AC 2000 manoeuvres a 20t water treatment unit out to a distance of 46m (150ft) at the UK Sellafield nuclear power plant

The 800t (880 US ton) capacity Demag AC 2000, equipped with sideways superlift attachment to stiffen the boom, installed the 20t load at 46m (150ft) radius. Ainscough provided the crane for UK contractor Amec.

The treatment unit will help to reduce the radioactivity of the pile fuel storage pond at the Sellafield nuclear facility.

Workers begin to commission the treatment unit as the crane boom raises to near-vertical

The load was assembled offsite and lifted into the pond to reduce overall installation and commissioning time, according to British Nuclear Fuels Limited.
