The i3500 uses CanBUS technology to allow a new level of simplicity and reliability. As all components are connected via a single cable, the installation cabling is kept to a minimum and, with the increased processing power, has eliminated the need for a separate CPU housing Rayco-Wylie says.

One of the most popular aspects of the i3500 is the ability to incorporate ‘virtual wall’ programming; this allows the operator to simply teach the system where it is not permitted to operate the crane.

To set the operating range the unit is put into a learning mode via a key switch, the operator then simply drives the crane through its permitted working range by operating the slew and boom up/boom down motions. When this is completed the key is returned to the operating position and can be removed for security. The system will then automatically prevent the crane from entering the programmed no-go zones.

The i3500 is very adaptable, Rayco- Wylie says, and can be used on telescopic, lattice boom and knuckleboom cranes, and even installed on concrete pumps as a range limiting device.
