German crane company MSG Krandienst, with branches in Freiburg, Kehl, and Strasbourg, has been particularly busy with service work on the wind turbines on the hills of the Black Forest.
In this particular job MSG Krandienst sent one of its two LTM 1650-8.1 cranes to replace components for an Enercon E-66 wind turbine.
The turbine was located at an altitude of 1,100 metres in an area north of Freiburg.
Within just one day the mobile crane lifted the entire blade star in a two-hook operation and reassembled it after having replacing the generator.
To achieve this the eight-axle crane was equipped with Y-guying, a boom extension of six metres, and a small auxiliary jib.
The heaviest lift comprised a 48 tonne load carried at a radius of 25 metres. For this the crane’s ballast was set to maximum radius and so only 155 tonnes of counterweight was required.
Due to increased wind work MSG Krandienst is now expanding its fleet with an LTM 1300-6.3 and another LTM 1650-8.1.
