Zagrebtrans in Croatia has used its new Scheuerle road transport system in what is claimed to be one of the largest heavy transport operations in the country. The transport system, ordered at last year’s Bauma fair, includes a 24-axle-line Flat Combi, two goosenecks, a flat loading deck and a multi-functional lift-arm transport deck.

The 320t-capacity lift arm loading deck was coupled between two 12-axle Flat Combi platform trailers to move a 260t transformer more than 40km from the Koncar Power Transformer plant in Jankomir, Croatia to the Krsko nuclear power station in Slovenia. Hydraulic lifting equipment was used to load the 12m x 3.7m x 4.2m transformer onto the 70m long transport combination. On the first day 20km had to be covered in five hours, which included 90 minutes of shunting to exit the site. On the second day 25km had to be covered, and on both days the river Sava had to be crossed. Two railcrossings were also made, where the trailer had to be lowered to a ground clearance of less than 20mm so that the load did not hit overhead power lines. The journey, on 192 tyres, took 30 hours.
