The 20t, 7m high, spire was sawn into two sections for removal and transport. The new sandstone sections were then packed and prepared for the crane hoist by specialists from the Doka Group, a manufacturer of formwork for concreting work.

The stonework was then attached to the hook of the mobile crane. The heaviest loads were the lower sections, which required the crane to hoist a gross weight of around 16t at over 60m radius.
