The largest equipment show on earth returns to Munich this October. Having originally been scheduled to take place in April the new date seemed to work for most, with Bauma saying 97 percent of exhibitor space was confirmed by January this year.

“In the personal conversations we have with exhibitors and visitors, we hear one thing over and over again,” said Klaus Dittrich, chairman and CEO of Messe München. “They are really looking forward to having face-to-face discussions and, of course, to experiencing the special atmosphere that only Bauma can create.”

Quite how this special atmosphere translates into sales will be key for many exhibitors, however, as the future of trade shows is under particular scrutiny at the moment. The balance between new working patterns, growing environmental awareness – particularly towards reducing air miles, and the ever-increasing cost of tradeshows set against the rising cost of living is still to be determined.

Yet with so many people finally ‘reuniting’ post Covid this elusive buzz should be palpable. And although it’s not quite the official Octoberfest we’re sure plenty of beer will be drunk and contracts subsequently pledged!

German tower crane manufacturer AMS will be happy to explain to visitors about its range of AK flat-top cranes, which can be flexibly designed with boom lengths of 55 to 80 m and maximum load capacities of 6 to 20 t. AMS tower cranes are designed and produced in-house in Germany. Only the electronics development takes place in cooperation with the German company NTK Ingenieurbüro.

Ascorel is a French manufacturer of anti-collision solutions designed for use in extreme conditions. It also makes onboard electronic systems designed to improve monitoring and safety of machines used in public works, mines and quarries, offshore platform and firefighting. At Bauma vistors can learn about its MC 603 anti-collision zoning and load indicator system, its Supervisor management tool for its anti-collision systems, and its Alizé wind speed indicator. Ascorel is also the exclusive dealer of Arcon remote controls.

Italian control systems manufacturer Autec will present its range of remote controls for construction machinery. New controls include the M-PRO and R-PRO waist-held cableless control systems. Autec says these two Dynamic/Dynamic+P portable stations have a medium to high number of actuators, high control reliability, modern and ergonomic design, and remarkable battery autonomy.

The company has also expanded its AIR series Sidekick range with the waist-held SK8B and SKL controllers: SK8 has 2 rows of actuators and can house a 1.8" display, while the SKL allows for up to two linear joysticks.

BAVARIALIFT

German sales and rental house Bavarialift offers a range of lifting devices focused on goods lifts, trailer cranes, and mobile vertical lifts.

It says its personnel and goods lifts have a stable, compact, design and so require less space than conventional cranes and work platforms. It adds its trailer cranes have compact dimensions and a low dead weight and even powerful models can be pulled with a car.

The company believes that its mobile vertical lifts offer a safe alternative to ladders on the construction site.

German tower crane manufacturer BBL will present the latest developments relating to its Wotan tower cranes, including the BBL 5022 Wotan, the BBL Skyworker 5544, the BBL Portal 120/8 and the BBL Rohrturm RT20/30. US-headquartered crane sales and rental giant Bigge will be happy to discuss all things cranes and construction with those interested in its bare lease, crane sales, crane and rigging, transportation, pre-planning, project management, and engineering services. Bigge has over 1,500 cranes consisting of truck cranes, all-terrain cranes, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, tower cranes, boom trucks, and hoists.

BKL BAUKRAN LOGISTIK

German crane sales and rental firm BKL will be at a new stand location outside, sharing a stand that’s over 350 square metres, with Italian self-erecting tower crane manufacturer Cattaneo. There it will present a range of construction cranes, mobile cranes, mobile construction cranes and crane services. This is the 15th time BKL will have exhibited in Bauma and, as such, it says its “participation will be a big one”!

BÖCKER MASCHINENWERKE

German truck crane manufacturer Böcker will use Bauma to launch its new electric AK 48e truck crane. According to Böcker the fully electric steel-aluminium truck crane can operate completely electrically in crane and platform mode, plus it can travel to the construction site powered exclusively by electricity utilising a Mercedes eActros.

Also on display will be the other electric solutions – including its AK 37e truck crane, its AHK 36e trailer crane, and its Junior 24e inclined lift – all of which are powered by a 230 V electric motor. This means they can now be powered by connection to a normal household socket enabling permanent electric operation on any building. The new developments operate with optimised consumption and require significantly less energy than comparable devices, says Böcker. Their strong battery capacity also ensures long self-sufficient use even without an external power supply. As a hybrid, the 230 V truck crane AK 37e can operate either in plugin mode or use the truck's conventional PTO combustion engine for power supply.

Böcker will also be offering visitors to its stand platform rides in its AK 52 truck crane which has been converted into an aerial work platform that can carry up to six people.

In addition, the company’s Super-Lift LX-PM rack-and-pinion construction hoist and its Super-Lift MX-PM, both for personnel and materials, will be on display.

Spanish tower crane manufacturer Comansa will launch a new luffing jib tower crane: the LCH300. The company says the new crane marks a milestone as its first ever hydraulic model. It has a maximum load capacity of 16 tonnes and a modular jib with a reach of 25 to 60 metres, with configurations every five metres.

The crane can be assembled with 2.5 x 2.5m tower sections. It has a minimum working radius of four metres and a minimum radius of nine metres when out of service.

It has manual transmission combinations of 1T (direct pulling) and 2T. The maximum load capacity is 8t with the 1T configuration and 16t with the 2T configuration. The maximum load at the jib end is 3,400 and 3,150kg, respectively.

The luffing moves the jib and counter jib jointly by a hydraulic cylinder at the cathead and jib hinge assembly. The hydraulic pump unit is located on a movable platform in one piece.

From the cabin there is direct visibility of the lifting mechanism of between 50kW(standard) and 65kW (optional). Thanks to the Effi- Plus technology, it is possible to increase the speed of the lifting mechanism without affecting consumption, which allows loading cycles to be considerably reduced, thereby improving the productivity of the crane.

The design of this new rotating part - jib, cathead and counter jib - as well as the mechanism, cabin and hydraulic unit platforms, optimises the transport of this model, which may be supplied by eight trucks or containers.

This new luffing jib crane from Comansa incorporates the Cube Cab (L or XL) with Split type air conditioning. The cabin platform, like the lifting and hydraulic unit platforms, can be transported in a single piece.

Comansa says luffing jib tower cranes offer optimal performance where horizontal jib cranes cannot move loads freely due to space limitations. Now, with the incorporation of the LCH300 hydraulic model, the luffing mechanism is optimised to offer even greater performance and an efficient assembly, as well as reduction of the radius when out of service.

A new fleet management product/app will also be presented, plus a new bolted mast section for the European market.

Centrepiece of the Enerpac stand will be its new SBL600 telescopic hydraulic gantry along with its entry-level gantry system for industrial movers – the ML40 Mini Lift Gantry. The company’s new E-mover battery-powered load skate will also be demonstrated together with its SCJ-Series 50T Cube Jacks-Ups. The stand will also feature Enerpac’s growing range industrial tools and cylinders now available for heavy lift as well as construction and maintenance projects.

The SBL600 Super Boom Lift hydraulic gantry is a three-stage telescopic hydraulic cylinder with a rectangular boom for increased capacity. It offers a first stage lifting capacity of 674 tonnes and 416 tonnes at the third stage. It has a lifting height of 10.6 metres making it particularly suitable for applications such as placing gas turbine generators and power transformers in powerplants, says Enerpac.

The new Enerpac EMVSeries E-mover battery-powered load skate is a self-propelled skate featuring a central load bearing plate. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the Enerpac MLS-Series wheeled load skates. The E-mover on show at Bauma will include a hydraulic lifting cylinder in place of a load bearing plate and has a 50 tonne load capacity split between the E-mover and wheeled load skate.

Enerpac’s heavy lifting systems will be demonstrated via its SCJ-Series Cube Jacks and the larger JS-Series Jack- Up – a synchronised lifting and lowering system with self-contained hydraulics in each unit.

Cometto’s BladeMax1000 wind turbine rotor blade adapter will be seen for the first time in Munich. It has a load capacity of 1000 mT and can be used to transport the latest generation mega blades.

A wind turbine blade adapter complete with a self-steering trailer combination will also be shown.

Also on display will be Faymonville’s ModulMAX AP-M heavy duty platform trailer that combines the supporting assist mode with the independent self-propelled mode. This means the driven axles can be switched on and off at any speed.

There will also be a four-axle Eco1000 with hybrid technology, which Faymonville describes as “absolutely groundbreaking”.

Quebec, Canada-based company Fraco, a manufacturer of vertical transport equipment and systems for persons and materials, acquired the Spanish brand Torga in 2019 as part of a drive to increase its production capacity and accelerate the implementation of its manufacturing activities in Europe.

Experts will be available to show you its range of lifting equipment that includes construction lifts, transport platforms, industrial elevators and work platforms.

Highlights include the Torga PT elevator for tower cranes and for the construction and maintenance of wind turbines. It carries a maximum of two people at a speed of 24 m / minute.

Memmingen, Germany-based Goldhofer will use Bauma to premiere its new FT Series vehicle concept. With a focus on operational flexibility, it combines simple handling with the versatility needed to meet a wide variety of transportation needs, says Goldhofer. Goldhofer will not reveal any further details until the trade show gets underway.

The company is also presenting the latest addition to its Star family: the Trailstar which it unveiled at IAA Transportation. This three- to five-axle air-suspension trailer is a new construction with a range of features for optimum use of the loading area and centre of gravity plus superb manoeuvrability.

Also on display will be a further model from the Stepstar line: the new force-steered Stepstar Z.

Other products being showcased include: The Blades Plus trailing dolly; the FTV 850 blade carrier for extra-long and heavy turbine blades; the ADDRIVE 2.0 heavy-duty module, which can be used as a towed or self-propelled unit; and the CargoPlus low-profile tyre.

German company Grasdorf claims to be one of the largest manufacturers of special wheels for mobile cranes, construction machinery, special vehicles, tractors and combine harvesters in Europe.

Its experts will be on-hand to guide visitors through its range of wheels and tyres which enable a wide number of possible combinations and thus complete wheels for a wide variety of purposes.

It is also able to make custom wheels for very specific uses, such as for extremely high tractor or load weights and unusual size specifications. Grasdorf also offers its wheels finished in every conceivable RAL-colour in OEM quality.

At Bauma visitors to its stand can learn about its Eco-Jack hydraulic toe jacks and Eco-Skate load moving trolleys. With the Eco-Skate eMotion load moving skates, machines and other parts can be moved flexibly via battery operation and radio remote control.

Experts will also highlight the new eMotion 24. On three support points simultaneous travel and steering at three speeds, as well as safe positioning, are made possible and proportionally executed by one person through the one-joystick function of the remote control. Compactly built with an insertion height of 180mm and digitally controlled synchronous motors and a battery life of 2.5 hours under full load, the ECO-Skate eMotion 24 is suitable for use in confined spaces due to its compact design, says HTS.

Italian minicrane manufacturer Jekko will present both its new products and green initiatives to visitors to its stand at Bauma.

Its stand is 512 sqm and will house five containers creating a two-floor structure that will be used for meetings, a hospitality zone, and a reception area to greet customers and dealers. The containers have been salvaged and refurbished specially for Bauma and, in line with the company’s sustainability aims, will be later installed in at Jekko’s headquarters as part of a new customer training area.

On display will be all of Jekko’s ranges – its SPX and JF crane lines and its MPK mini picker product lines – with four models of each.

A centrepiece of the stand will be the SPX328 minicrane crawler. It can fit through standard doorways yet has a maximum load capacity of 2,800kg, a maximum height of 10,5m, and a reach of as long as 8m vertically and 8.5m horizontally. It is powered by lithium-ion batteries and prioritises user-friendliness via its Graphic User Interface, says Jekko.

The SPX328 will be setup with different configurations: one with a runner jib; the second with a winch; and the third with a electric jib that’s independent from the mini-crane’s hydraulics and operated via a dedicated radio control.

From the JF articulated crawler crane line will be Jekko’s JF365, JF545, and JF990 models and the new JF235. It’s the smallest bi-energy powered model of the range and has a main boom and a jib, each with four extensions, and delivers the same performance as larger JF models, lifting up to 6.150 kg and reaching as far as 15 m high.

Jekko’s new MPK10 minipicker will also be showcased alongside the MPK20R.

Additional vacuums and tools will also be present, including 5-, 10- and 20-tonne capacity lifting beams with side telescopic extension for increased versatility.

Green initiatives the company will be happy to outline include becoming a plastic-free company, reducing the use of paper, and even establishing beehives on its corporate premises.

The company’s latest model of a control system with energy recuperation will also be presented. Kuli Hebezeuge - Helmut Kempkes says this is becoming a particularly popular option in the face of rising energy prices.

As per usual, the Liebherr stand will be impressively large covering an outdoor area of over 14,000 m2. In this space more than 70 exhibits will be displayed. Highlights include Liebherr’s ‘Unplugged’ zero emission construction machines, including piling rigs, drilling rigs and, most significantly, the LR 1130.1 and LR 1160.1 unplugged crawler cranes. A new crawler crane, the LR 12500-1.0 – with 2,500-tonne loadbearing capacity, will also be presented.

For mobile and crawler cranes, digital products being promoted at Bauma include applications in the new MyLiebherr customer portal such as the Crane Finder, the Crane Planner 2.0, the digital mobile crane licence, fleet management, as well as a new telemetrics application.

The new compact crane LTC 1050-3.1 from Liebherr- Werk Ehingen will also be promoted, equipped with an electric motor in addition to the conventional drive. This means the crane movements can also be executed using electricity.

Liebherr is also extending its line of Fibre tower cranes with the 258 HC-L 10/18 Fibre luffing jib crane, the high-top crane 1188 EC-H 40 Fibre, as well as the flat-top cranes 520 EC-B 20 Fibre and 370 EC-B 16 Fibre.

With the 195 HC-LH 6/12 Liebherr will showcase its first hydraulic luffing jib crane in combination with a slim and climbing tower system.

The new Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2 mobile crane and a new all terrain will also be showcased.

Manitowoc will have 12 cranes on display: seven Grove mobile cranes and five Potain tower cranes.

The new Grove GMK6400-1 all-terrain crane will be one of the highlights as the crane is being shown ‘in the metal’ for the very first time. The new model is the upgrade of the six-axle GMK6400. It retains its predecessor’s maximum capacity of 400 t and a main boom of 60 m but new innovations include an improved hydraulic system with faster flow to provide quicker operating speeds and smoother movement.

Also added to the new 400 t machine is the Crane Control System (CCS) and MAXbase variable outrigger positioning system.

Two additional Grove all-terrain cranes will be making their public debuts at the show. The 150 t GMK5150XL and 120 t GMK5120L five-axle cranes both launched at the end of 2021. The GMK5150XL has a 69 m its main boom and the GMK5120L offers 66 m of boom, plus a variety of counterweight configurations for greater flexibility.

In terms of tower cranes, two new models will be revealed at the show, with one each coming from the topless and luffing jib ranges. Alongside them will be the Potain MDT 489, which is also making its first public appearance since launching in 2021. It’s available in 20 t and 25 t versions, with each offering 80 m of jib.

From the self-erecting crane line, there will be two units. The Igo T 99 will make its public debut at bauma 2022, having launched last year. Also on display will be a Potain Hup M 28-22. Capable of lifting 2.2 t, the unit is the only self-erecting crane that offers 28 m of jib and up to 31 m of working height within such compact transport

Manitowoc is also using Bauma to launch its Connect digital fleet management platform. Connect enables remote monitoring through an app-based system giving owners and operators the ability to view real-time crane information, receive alerts, exchange data, with further functionality to be added in the future.

Connect will initially be available on GMK all-terrain cranes produced from 2023. It will be offered on all new models and available to retrofit on cranes equipped with the CCS control system.

For Potain tower cranes, Connect will be offered as an option on new top-slewing and self-erecting cranes. In addition, it can be retrofitted on all CCS-equipped cranes. Potain will discontinue production of its older CraneSTAR Diag tool.

In addition to enhancing fleet management the system boosts sustainability, streamlines service and maintenance for users, and improves connectivity to cranes across smartphones, tablets, and laptops, Manitowoc claims. Optimised troubleshooting thanks to the real-time availability of crane information, allows remote technicians to quickly understand the status of the crane, with any error codes displayed through the app, Manitowoc says. The remote service team can then run root cause analysis and propose potential solutions without the delay of travel or on-site physical assistance.

In the future, Manitowoc plans to enable Connect to be embedded into the Building Information Management systems.

A key feature that provides the P-Profile crane with even more lifting capacity — especially with the additional fly jib knuckle boom system — is DPS-C. The Dual Power System helps to use the maximum lifting force in fly jib mode. The special feature of DPS-C is that it continuously maximises the lifting force in every position, because - thanks to ingenious sensors and electronics - the system knows exactly where the crane tip is currently located.

“The past 14 months have marked an exciting new era for Raimondi with the company working on several fundamental projects, including the conceptualization and development of a new series of flattops,” said Diego Borgna, chief executive officer, Raimondi Cranes.

“We will also take the opportunity of the gathering at Bauma to present our new vision and guiding principals to clients, industry stakeholders, and our respected contemporaries in the sector,” he added. Borgna said that the details around the new 29,000 sq. m. company headquarters will also be shared at the event.

According to Raimondi the new models have lifting capacities from 6-24t and boast many technical innovations. “Our R&D department have been working extensively on developing cranes that respond to market trends and client needs. The new range of machines, designed with fleet rental companies top of mind, will include unique characteristics such as adaptable and lighter jibs, a new seamless crane control system, simplified and compatible components, as well as new tower sections allowing for both internal and external climbing,” said Cristian Badin, commercial director, Raimondi Cranes.

All machines will be equipped with the new crane cabin, available in two models, ensuring the highest levels of comfort and safety. Significant improvements have been made on the structural side with the cabin now featuring a single glass block on the frontal and side windshields, allowing an increase in visibility by 30%. Other major features are the canalized air system to reduce window fogging, an ergonomic seat, and several internal accessories designed to boost crane operator comfort.

German manufacturer Sennebogen will launch its first battery-powered telescopic crawler crane at Bauma.

The 50-tonne capacity crane is called the 653 E Electro Battery. It can operate fully emissions-free, says Sennebogen, and will offer users flexibility due to its Dual Power Management System.

The crane uses a 210 kWh battery pack and can be operated both in battery-only mode and whilst charging from the mains.

As soon as the machine is connected to the mains, the mains power is used for lifting activities, while any excess power simultaneously recharges the batteries.

The crane was developed in collaboration with Dutch dealer Van den Heuvel. Sennebogen says Van den Heuvel has been in close contact with crane rental companies and construction companies and, as such, requirements from the progressive Dutch market were brought into consideration during the development partnership.

In addition, Sennebogen says the crane operates with less vibration and is quieter than its diesel-powered counterparts.

The machine offers reduced service requirements, Sennebogen says, as maintenance procedures such as engine oil changes are eliminated.
