Dutch Dragon takes flight
Dutch tree surgeon BoomrooierijWeijtmans, based in Udenhout, has used an MKG HMK 901 T telescopic truck-mounted crane equipped with a Welling BV grab and chainsaw to make light work of ten fully-grown trees.

The grab and chainsaw, collectively known as the manipulator, and nicknamed the Dutch Dragon, is capable of grabbing, sawing and bringing down tree parts weighing up to 1,000kg, and can rotate 360°. The capacity for 1,000kg applies when the equipment is used in standard configuration, grabbing the piece at the bottom and sawing on its own. If grabbing the middle of the trunk, it is capable of lifting 4.5t.

Using the crane and manipulator has reduced the time needed to fell trees to just an hour and a half, compared to using a telescopic crane equipped with a man basket, as well as improving safety, said Teo Weijtmans.
