IEC/EN 60034-2-1 is based on measured losses in the motor, rather than estimations, according to ABB. The measuring of winding, rotor and additional load losses are all affected by the new standard. Winding and rotor losses will now be based on actual measured temperature rises. The new standard also allows manufacturers to measure additional load losses due to magnetic flux created as the motor is running, instead of simply estimating them as 0.5% input power at rated load.
