ENGINEERING giant ABB has recently received identical orders from two Chinese crane manufacturers for control and electrical equipment.

Rival manufacturers ZPMC and SPMP are each supplying one ship-to-shore (STS) crane to Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal and two STS cranes for Xiamen Port in the P.R. of China. Both have turned to ABB to supply drives.

ABB Crane Systems in Sweden is responsible for the engineering and the supply of drive and control systems for all six cranes. These will be based on the ABB Advant Crane Control System concept. ZPMC and SPMP will build the steel structures and assemble the cranes. Each crane has a handling capacity of up to 62t.

ABB’s delivery will include AC frequency inverters and DTC control systems for powering and controlling the cranes.
