Like other very big mobile cranes, the AC 1000/9 looks likely to be transported with a basic four section boom section on one nine axle carrier, with ballast, backmast and additional telescopic sections on other carriers. The photo seems to show that the superstructure cab will travel folded behind the slewing ring.
A CAD-image of the 1,000t crane gives a few more clues about its design. The CAD images also shows the crane travelling with star-shaped stabilisers stowed on the carrier. The outriggers aren’t present on the carrier photographed in Germany. There appear to be attachment points for the stabilisers on either side of the seventh axle, below the turning table.
At a customer event in summer 2006, Klaus Meissner, Terex’s director of product intergrity (at that time R&D director for Terex Demag), said that the crane would be roadable with a 50m main boom and front stabilisers. A 100m boom length would be achieved using a separate carrier. The maximum sheave height for the crane is likely to be 176m.
