UK firm Ainscough Crane Hire has purchased Plymouth-based rental company West Country Crane Hire, adding over ten cranes, a fleet of lorry loaders and five depots to Ainscough’s assets.

For an undisclosed sum, Ainscough has grown its number of UK locations to 29 and expanded its presence in the South West of England through the deal.

Formed in 1984, West Coast Crane Hire has since established a client base drawn primarily from the shipbuilding power and construction sectors.

It's crane fleet, which consists of two to five axles cranes with capacities from 8t to 120t, includes cranes from manufacturers Grove, Liebherr, Tadano and Terex.

Commenting on the deal, Ainscough managing director Neil Partridge said: I am delighted to announce our successful acquisition of West Country Crane Hire -- the acquisition truly completes our national network.

"The Plymouth site will operate as an Ainscough depot immediately, and we look forward to working with employees, customers and suppliers."

Brian Metters, managing director of West Country Crane Hire, added: "My wife and I have enjoyed running the business, and we are delighted to be passing it into safe hands."
