Paceco España has delivered three 40t Transtainer rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) to a new container terminal at the port of Algeciras in southern Spain.

The cranes have a hook height of 18m (one over a stack of five containers) and a span of 23m, which admits six rows of containers plus one.

The new container terminal in Algeciras is part of a joint venture between the terminal operator TCB and Acciona, a Spanish construction company.

The PLC controlled RTGs come with Paceco’s hydraulic anti-sway system, and anti-collision system, overload protection device, trim & skew system and TV cameras to monitor movements.

The RTGs will support two new ship-to-shore container cranes from Konecranes VLC. These cranes, ordered in November 2001, are now being tested and commissioned, according to Konecranes VLC director Mika Mahlberg, and will be ready in October. These container cranes will be the third ship-to-shore installation worldwide to operate Konecranes’ propriety Boxhunter anti-sway reeving system.
