This is the only Tadano Faun ATF 70-4 in New Zealand and it is owned by Collins Cranes, based in Wellington. It is pictured lifting an 18t Bailey bridge across the Akatarawa River in the Wellington region of Upper Hutt. The 35m long bridge was pre-assembled on the western side of the river on rollers. The crane picked up one end of the bridge and slewed it to where it was within the crane’s 20t capacity range, then re-rigged and positioned it into place. Full counterweight of 12.1t and 25.5m of main boom (out of a maximum of 40.6m) was used. The bridge is needed for logging operations in the area. The crane was built in 1998 but was supplied only recently by Faun to Collins as a used machine. Customer specific modifications included a second winch, a rooster sheave and 20.5 tyres as well as substantial refurbishment including a new paint finish.
