AmQuip Corporation has bought Tidewater Equipment of Baltimore, Maryland – the first of what is expected to be a series of acquisitions over the coming months as part of a rapid expansion programme.

Amquip is based in Bensalem, Pennsylvania but is looking to expand its operations all along the east coast. It placed orders for more than 100 cranes at the Conexpo show in March in anticipation of replenishing the fleets of acquired companies. Amquip general manager Gerry Couch said of Tidewater: “They were at one time the largest crane rental company in the Baltimore area. They had fallen on hard times but had a good location.

“We are now operating under our name in the area with a new fleet of cranes coming in daily to replace their tired iron. We have been successful landing some great high profile jobs.” Further acquisitions are being explored in the area, he said, and in Boston and Washington DC.

Last year AmQuip took over J Supor Trucking & Rigging of New Jersey and in June this year opened a new 1.8ha facility in Carteret, New Jersey.
