The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B30 standards committee’s voluntary safety standard is to be amended to make the ‘recommendation’ on markings on wire rope slings a ‘requirement’.
Slings should be marked with the name or trademark of the sling fabricator, the size of the wire rope used to make the sling, and the rated load together with the sling angle on which it is based.
The fabricator is responsible for the initial markings; the user is responsible for keeping them legible during the working life of the sling.
