A battery-powered self-propelled mobile crane that can lift up to 9t (20,000 lb) has been launched by US factory equipment manufacturer Air Technical Industries.
The Reversible Boom Crane (RBC) has a hydraulically operated knuckle boom that folds twice and telescopes. This enables it to pick loads up close It can pick up loads as close as 450mm from the base and reach out or up 5m. It can lift loads from pits or holes up to 1.2m below ground level.
Narrow tracks make it accessible in narrow aisles and crowded areas and it can 90 degree angles. Variable solid state speed control lets it travel at up 6.4km/h or as slowly as 0.3m per per minute. Powered slewing is available as an option, in which case telescopic outriggers are also supplied.
Another option is an hydraulic powered cable winch that can lower a load up to 30m (100ft) into a hole or pit, or from the top of a high building.
Power comes form a 24V DC rechargeable battery. All the controls are push-button on the control handle. Remote control pendant is an option.
