The LCR Group was attracted to the crane because of its ability to travel on most Australian roads without the need to dismantle it. For example, the crane can travel with its main boom attached and rear out-rigger box in place.

The counterweight configurations suit Australian road transport systems where they are limited to a maximum of 24t per semi-trailer.

The LCR Group asked Terex Demag to fit a trailing dolly system that works with the crane and not just a load-sharing unit.

“This size of unit will open a lot of doors in the Australian market for crane hirers,” said Len Gillespie, LCR general manager mobile cranes.

He explained that the 350t crane has been utilised in pre-cast erection, placement of heavy industrial equipment into facilities, tower crane erection and dismantle and placement of materials onto high-rise buildings.

The crane is currently in operation in the southeast corner of Queensland and northern New South Wales.

LCR spent over AUS$7.5million (€4.6m) in 2005 with the purchase of three Terex Franna cranes, a Demag 200t five-axle machine and three Tadano 55t truck cranes. Previously, the LCR Group has only worked with Terex in small Franna crane purchases.

It has also just purchased a new AC 80 from Terex, which was delivered in the first week of March this year.
