The first double-girder container crane is intended for an intermodal terminal in Kholmsk, Sakhalin Island, east Russia. The span is 25m and the stacking height is 2+1. An all-electric telescopic slewing spreader with its own slewing device will aid accurate positioning and stacking of 20ft, 30ft, 40ft and 45ft containers without changing the spreader.
In addition to the spreader, the crane will be equipped with a hook beam for handling parcel goods. This is the second crane that has been manufactured for Sakhalin. The first unit, delivered in 2000 to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, is a wide-span container crane with 32t capacity.
The partly-assembled crane (major units and components) will be shipped by railway across Russia to the port of Vanino, where it will be delivered by ferry to Kholmsk, where the crane will be fully assembled and all equipment will be tested. The crane will be put into operation in 2008.
The Artem crane is larger. It has a 32m span and two cantilevers with an 8m working outreach and stacking height of 2+1 and comes with a telescopic spreader.
The special spreader design allows for handling without problems and delays in heavy snow or severe winds. The crane’s lattice-type crane structure has high rigidity at frequent gale-strength wind. Mechanical and electrical components of the crane and an ergonomic operator cabin have heating and are well-protected from abundant precipitation and severe frost. Special anti-corrosion technology of paintwork protects metal parts of crane from high humidity.
More than 10 of Baltkran’s wide-span gantry container cranes delivered since 2000 operate on the Far East on terminals of Nakhodka, Ussuryisk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk.
In a separate deal, Baltkran has ordered 10 sets of overload protection systems from German control manufacturer Hirschmann. The EUR100,000 order includes programmable switching amplifiers as well as compression load cells, load pins and graphic consoles. Hirschmann had already supplied similar systems to the Russian crane specialist in 2006 for use on gantry cranes in the harbor at St. Petersburg.
The programmable switching amplifiers iVISOR-PSV from the KRÜGER product series of Hirschmann have a Profibus DP interface via which they can be linked directly to the controls for the gantry cranes. In an emergency situation, the amplifier switches off the crane immediately. In addition, all load-relevant data can be documented in an Excel-compatible format with the aid of an integrated data logger that can be configured by means of a PC.
“Baltkran had previously used only Russian-built overload protection system”, explained Jörg Kerkow, Sales Manager – International Partners at Hirschmann Automation and Control. “That we succeeded in gaining the leading manufacturer of the harbor cranes in Russia as a customer demonstrates the competence of Hirschmann in the field of load moment indication as well as the good price-performance ratio of our products.”
