The new site, still in Richmond, will become the head of operations for Bigge on the eastern seaboard, and see an increase in both personnel and plant numbers on the previous site.
Bigge was established in San Leandro, California in 1916. Today, it has a string of depots along the West Coast, from Seattle to LA. Further inland, but still in the West, it has depots in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Phoenix, Arizona. It has other depots in Des Moines and Houston, and, in the East, in Richmond, Wilmington, Knoxville, and Aiken, SC.
Over 30 all terrain and crawler cranes will be added to the heavy lift specialist’s fleet subsequent to the move, along with extra mechanics to perform maintenance duties.
According to Bigge’s vice-president of sales and marketing, Joe Nelms, the new headquarters will also need additional drivers and sales staff to cope with current demand for the contractor’s services.
He explained: “Our current location in Richmond couldn’t keep up with our work load; adding to our fleet and moving to this new complex will help us satisfy the demand.”
The move in Richmond forms part of a wider expansion at the firm, preceded by the addition of sales personnel at their Seattle offices, and the acquisition of several Link-Belt HC-278 truck cranes and a large crawler crane to develop Bigge’s crane rental services in Houston.
