UK company Birketts Bogmats is promoting the importance of timber mats in construction sites with unstable ground conditions.

The company currently supplies around 20,000 mats a year to construction projects worldwide, assisting the set-up of cranes, mobile plant and vehicles.

Timber mats are particularly important during the winter period, says managing director Juanita Watts: "In the New Year, those working on developments return after the Christmas break and are keen to recommence work on site. On occasions, the ordering of timber access mats was overlooked pre-Christmas, so work commences without them in place. In other instances, ground conditions have changed dramatically because of the winter weather, leaving plant struggling to cope with uneven, boggy or frozen ground."

To address short-notice orders, Birketts has a large inventory of stock stored at locations across the UK.
