Matthias Wasel, general manager of the Bergheim-based firm, said, “The Terex AC 350/6 met our expectations very quickly. It has already proven its value as an addition to our product range in the lifting capacity range of 250 to 350 tonnes, which is under heavy demand. With the Terex® AC 350/6, we will now be able to offer our customers even more flexibility, in terms of crane work, for all kinds of projects.”
Terex markets the crane as a powerful all rounder. Breuer & Wasel plans to use it for a wide range of jobs: industrial building and power plant construction projects, tower crane assembly operations, and the erection and maintenance of wind turbines.
Another big source of demand in Breuer & Wasel’s market is lignite (‘brown coal’) surface mining, and the new crane will play a role in the sector. The company is looking to build its fleet at higher capacities too. Already, it owns crane with capacities ranging from 30t–700t, but it says its planned fleet expansion will soon include cranes over 1,000t.
Terex says that, with a total length of only 16.7m, the AC 350/6 is the smallest 6-axle crane on the market, as well as the most compact all terrain crane available in the 350t class. The crane can be used for work suited to cranes with lifting capacities of under 220 tonnes [242 US tons] by using a partial counterweight, which makes it an ideal alternative to medium and large 5-axle units. On the other hand, it is, Terex claims, by far the most powerful crane in the 200t–350t range, both in terms of its main boom and of its various available extensions.
The AC 350/6 can even be used for operations normally reserved for the 400t class, an area that has traditionally been the domain of much larger machines. For example, its remarkably large lifting capacity, a telescoped boom length of approximately 60m], and an impressive maximum system length of 125.7m all show how the AC 350/6 achieves the performance figures of a 400-tonne unit.
A compact chassis and speed-dependent rear axle steering enable the crane to work with remarkably small turn radii. In addition, it is the only unit in the 350t class with a front overhang shorter than 2m, which allows it to be operated without additional escort personnel in a variety of countries. Additional attachments, whether required or optional, can be loaded onto conventional trucks within a width of 2.55m.
