US contractor Burkhalter Rigging has closed its taxi crane rental operation Jackson, Mississippi and moved its heavy haul trucking company from there to its corporate headquarters in Columbus, Mississippi.
The company said that Burkhalter Specialized Transport (BST) needed relocating because it “has been feeling growing pains needing more equipment to support its operations and more people for project management, estimating, and administration”.
It added: “The consolidation move will trim corporate overheads and allow Burkhalter to offer higher levels of service to its clients at more competitive rates.” Closure of the taxi crane rental depot was “a byproduct” of the decision to move BST.
President and CEO Delynn Burkhalter said: “We made a good business decision for the continual overall improvement of our companies. The metro Jackson area day-to-day taxi crane rental market simply does not fit with our risk versus reward programme goals. This market has been high risk and low return for several years. Burkhalter Rigging, Inc. will continue to service our long-time customers in that market to the same high quality and service standards that they are accustomed to receiving.” He added: “It had been our intention to centralise our ‘specialised transport’ operations to Columbus for some time to increase our loaded miles moving our growing fleet of heavy lift crawler cranes and rigging equipment around the country, which allows us to be competitive during this tight market”.
Founded in 1973 as a local crane service company called Crane Service, Inc., the name was later changed by Delynn Burkhalter to CSI/Burkhalter Rigging. In 1998 the name was changed again to Burkhalter Rigging Inc when it was repositioned as a full service turnkey provider of an engineered heavy lifting and rigging, machinery moving and heavy transport as well as standard crane rental.
