Cargotec says the two business areas will “move from current separate country-level organisations into market area organisations and a customer segment-based operating model”.

The decision to reorganise the companies is part if its One Company approach to business and will improve its customer focus and efficiency, according to Cargotec.

As a result, it is expected that 350 jobs will be lost and the loader crane factory in Meppel, the Netherlands closed.

Cargotec is hoping to achieve savings of €20m ($26m) by the end of 2010 with the restructure, including €15m ($19.5m) by the end of 2009 and a further €5m ($6.5m) in 2010.

“While increasing customer focus, the new organisation will strengthen presence with an empowered frontline, wider management spans and a flat organisation structure,” Cargotec says. “Utilising shared back office resources improves efficiency, provides cost savings and enables faster decision making closer to the customer.”
