The site will produce a range of products from Cargotec’s range, which includes loader cranes and port equipment, and is part of the company’s product supply strategy to strengthen its presence to support customer base development. It is also hoped the move will lower production and transportation costs by strengthening sourcing activities in Central Eastern Europe.

Production in the area will start in rented premises, with the first products assembled planned to be spreaders and medium range terminal tractors. Land purchasing is set to be finalised in early summer 2009, with production at Cargotec’s own facility due to start in the second quarter of 2010.

Earlier this week, Cargotec announced plans to restructure its Hiab and Kalmar business operations and close a loader crane factory in Meppel, the Netherlands.
