The board of directors of the USA’s National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (CCO) has announced the directors and officers who will serve CCO during 2001.

Davis Lauve, currently serving a three-year term on the board of directors, is re-elected to serve as President in 2001. Lauve is president of Nichols Construction Corporation, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Newly elected to the position of vice president is Ron Schad, president of Essex Crane Rental, Hoboken, New Jersey. Schad replaces George Bragg, of Bragg Crane Service, Long Beach, California, who has stepped down from the board after completing his second three-year term.

Leon Johnson, of Ameco, Canyon Lake, Texas, is re-elected to the position of secretary/treasurer.

Newly elected to three-year terms on the board of directors are: Stephen Brown, training director at the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Washington, DC; and Robert Steiner, vice president of Kelley Equipment Company of Florida. Both Brown and Steiner previously served CCO as commissioners. Brown replaces Frank Hanley, IUOE general president, who has stepped down from the board after completing his second three-year term.

  Re-elected to the board for a three-year term is Garry Higdem, vice president and assistant manager, Heavy Construction Division, Granite Construction Co., Watsonville, California.

Continuing his second three-year term on the Board is John Claflin, vice president of Link-Belt Construction Equipment.

Carson Huneycutt, vice president of JA Jones Construction, Charlotte, North Carolina, will continue to serve on the board in the capacity of immediate past president.

Kerry Hulse, operations manager, Deep South Crane & Rigging, Houston, Texas, will continue to serve the board in his capacity as chairman of the commissioners.

The CCO has also elected three new commissioners. They are: Joseph Collins, equipment operations crane supervisor, Zachry Construction Corp., San Antonio, Texas. Collins has 28 years experience with heavy industrial construction crane and rigging projects; John Hellums, site lift specialist, ExxonMobil, Baytown, Texas. Hellums has 23 years experience in crane and rigging work, and has been chair of the Houston Business Roundtable Rigging Subcommittee for the past two years; Douglas Sidelinger, equipment operator safety training supervisor with Cianbro Corporation, Pittsfield, Maine. Sidelinger has 12 years experience with crane and transportation activities.

On CCO’s Written Exam Management Committee, Leon Johnson has stood down as chairman. Joe Bob Williams, corporate safety training manager for Maxim Crane Works, based in LaPorte, Texas, has taken over. Williams serves as a CCO Commissioner and has been a member of the committee since 1997.
