A shipment of 34 boom trucks from National Crane has arrived in Chile, destined for use in the mining industry.

National Crane dealer Maquinarias Gildemeister sold the cranes to leasing company Relsa, which has a seven-year deal, worth $4.2m a year, with the state mining company Codelco (Corporación National del Cobre de Chile). The cranes will be used at mines in Chuqicamata and El Salvador in northern Chile.

The order comprises 24 National 880D cranes, six 690Ds and four 1195s. All are mounted on Mack CV713 truck chassis, with dump body to haul materials. One of the 25t-rated 1195 models has been supplied with a man-basket for electrical maintenance work, and a further three are fitted with radio remote controls.

Duties for the cranes include lifting off mining truck tyres that weigh 10t, servicing transformers and maintaining face shovels.

National’s sister company Grove has sold a rough terrain RT 600E and an RT 9130 to Chilean contractor Constructora BDS for work in copper mines. BDS specified the RT 600E with an engine heater because it will spend some time operating in Escondida, in the Atacama Desert, 3,050m above sea level.
