AIRC’s decision was made as part of Australia’s award modernisation process, which CICA CEO Alan Marshall said had made it a “big ask” as “award rationalisation has been such a strong government objective in the process”.
Award modernisation involves the creation of a system of modern awards to operate in conjunction with the new Australian workplace relations system that is expected in January 2010.
Mobile Crane Hiring Award 2010 will come into force on 1 January, 2010 and covers employers throughout Australia engaged in the mobile crane hire industry and their employees in the classifications within the Schedule A classification structure to the exclusion of any other modern award. AIRC has adopted CICA/Ai Group’s proposed classification structure for the new award.
“This is an outstanding success for the industry,” Marshall said.
