THE USA’s two main trade associations for manufacturers of construction equipment are planning to merge this year.
The board of directors of the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association (CIMA) and the Equipment Manufacturers Institute (EMI) have each voted to approve a memorandum of understanding that would consolidate the two groups into one association.
The groups said in a statement that they anticipated that the consolidation proposal would go to the memberships of the two associations for a vote sometime in the summer of this year. If approved, the newly consolidated association will legally begin operation on 1 January 2002.
CIMA represents manufacturers of construction machines and related equipment, components, parts and supplies as well as providers of industry-related services. EMI also represents the construction and industrial equipment sector as well as agricultural equipment.
