Established in 1928, the firm has been active in the wind energy sector for over 12 years, and provides both land and marine-based heavy transport solutions along with project management from its base in Halifax, UK.

Collett and Sons will base its latest fleet additions from MDF Transport’s wind division at its port and heavy lift storage depot in Goole.

Executives at the company expect the merger to significantly increase its ability to undertake large-scale projects for the wind energy sector.

Collett and Sons managing director, David Collett, said: “We see this as a strategic move to both bolster our current wind turbine transport fleet and to add value to the wind energy market. We now have a greater capacity and can use the expertise of our projects department, marine division and consulting services to build on the foundations that MDF started, and so are able to offer this to their clients.”

For MDF the deal means the company can now focus its efforts on the services it offers the oil and gas exploration sector.

MDF Transport managing director, Mark Farrow, explained: “After much deliberation we recognise that there is serious investment in equipment and resources required to operate in this market, so the decision was made to step forwards in this way and concentrate on our oil & gas exploration transport activities. We would like to wish Colletts every success in this largely complex and challenging business.”
