Collett & Sons Ltd has announced the latest addition to its specialist wind turbine transport fleet with the purchase of a Goldhofer FTV850 Blade Lifter system. This marks the specialist transport company’s second blade lifter trailer, enabling Collett to transport the latest generation of wind turbine blades with improved efficiency.

The new Blade Lifter, manufactured by Goldhofer, comprises four core trailer elements: FTV850 lifting module, 8-axle split lines, 6 driven axle lines and a 530BHP ADDRIVE 2.0 power pack unit.

The FTV850 lifting module has an 850 tonne-metre load capacity and allows blades to be elevated from 0 to 60 degrees while rotated through a full 360° pitching rotation, giving operators the flexibility to adapt to wind speed and direction and route conditions. It can safely carry blades up to 100 metres long, designed to handle the increasing scale of today’s turbine components.

The split axle lines can be adjusted, providing four options between 3 and 4 metres wide, providing increased stability and load distribution based on blade weight, length and centre of gravity. The system’s drive axles offer increased traction and manoeuvrability, even on challenging routes.

Scheduled to arrive in February 2026, the Blade Lifter will be deployed on the Sanquhar II Wind Farm project in Dumfries & Galloway and East Ayrshire. This 44-turbine extension will generate 308MW, making it the fourth-largest onshore wind farm in the UK once operational. The new Blade Lifter will operate alongside Collett’s existing unit, allowing both systems to work in convoy to deliver components efficiently and safely.

“With the arrival of our second Blade Lifter, we’re able to transport larger turbine blades more efficiently and safely than ever before,” said Jack Collett, renewables director at Collett & Sons. “Operating both trailers together provides the flexibility and capacity our clients need on complex renewable energy projects.”

This latest acquisition highlights Collett’s continued investment in specialist equipment, ensuring the company remains a trusted partner for complex wind turbine logistics and engineered transport solutions.
