Liebherr Container Cranes has been awarded contracts for ship-to-shore cranes in the UK and in the West Indies.

Liebherr has a contract for two wide span ship-to-shore container cranes for Tees & Hartlepool Port Authority in the UK. Each crane has a span of 48m, waterside outreach of 35m, landside backreach of 17.5m and height under spreader of 24m.

Operating speeds are 45/100 m/min for hoist, 180m/min for trolley travel and 120 m/min for crane travel. Safe working load is 40t under spreader with allowance for occasional lifts of up to 44t.

Remote diagnostics are available via radio frequency link to the port maintenance office and via modem to Liebherr’s plant in Ireland.

Liebherr delivered a similar wide-span crane to Port of Waterford, Ireland last year and is currently installing a similar unit at the Containerships Terminal in the Port of Helsinki, Finland.

Liebherr has also finalised a contract with Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Limited (PLIPDECO) in Trinidad for the supply of a super post panamax container crane.

The crane waterside outreach is 47m enabling operation on vessels with 17 containers across. The crane span is 23.5m and the landside backreach is 12m. Height under spreader is 34m, with a total hoisting range of 49.2m. SWL is 50t under twinlift spreader and 58t under hookbeam.

Speeds are 70/175 m/min for hoisting and 240m/min for trolley travel. Gantry travel speed is 46m/min. The Liebherr Winscan crane management system is also included.

This will be the second Liebherr quayside crane reference on the island of Trinidad as it delivered a container crane to the Port Authority of Trinidad & Tobago at the Port of Spain during 2000.

Liebherr has also made recent deliveries in Ireland, Portugal and the United Arab Emirates.

A ship-to-shore container crane and a rubber tyred gantry (RTG) crane have been delivered to Dublin Ferryport Terminal (DFT) in Ireland. The container crane has a waterside outreach of 35m, span of 18.62m and landside backreach of 14m. Height under spreader is 30m. Safe working load is 40t under spreader and 45t under hookbeam.

The container crane is equipped with curve-going capability for gantry travel. Crane drive is Liebherr DC with Liebherr Digivert speed control.

The RTG stacks one over five high and seven plus a truck lane wide. It is of eight-wheel configuration and is equipped with automatic steering. The RTG drive is Liebherr AC. It represents Liebherr’s third AC drive RTG crane delivery.

In Portugal, Liscont has a new super post panamax crane from Liebherr at the Port of Lisbon. This is the third order for Liebherr in less than two years from the Eurogate Group, which is one of the shareholders in Liscont, the other two having come from Medcenter Container Terminal and La Spezia Container Terminal in Italy. The four super post panamax units at Medcenter have been operational since late 2000 and the three super post panamax cranes ordered for the La Spezia Container Terminal are now being installed.

The crane for Liscont can operate across an 18 container wide vessel, has an SWL of 55t under twinlift spreader and a heavy lift capacity of 65t. Height under spreader is 34m with a total hoisting range of 49m. The crane has a span of 18m and a landside backreach of 15m. Speeds are 60/130 m/min for hoist and 180m/min for trolley travel. Gantry travel speed is 45m/min. Crane drives are DC with Liebherr Digivert speed control. The Liebherr Winscan crane management system is also included.

In the UAE, Gulftainer has taken delivery of four rubber tyre gantry cranes from Liebherr for its operation at Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT).

The company operates several Liebherr ship-to-shore and rubber tyre gantry cranes at Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) as well as the existing ship-to-shore cranes at SCT.

The new Liebherr RTGs are of 16 wheel configuration, stack one over five containers and span seven containers plus a truck lane. This design enables dense stacking and therefore permits continued throughput growth while maintaining maximum terminal productivity.

SWL is 40.6t under telescopic spreader. Hoist speed is 23/52 m/min and trolley speed is 70m/min. Crane travel speed is 70/130 m/min. Crane drives are Liebherr DC.
