District Judge Ursula Ungaro called a halt to the implementation of the county’s regulations, saying that a group of contractors and crane owners lead by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Florida East Coast Chapter, had “presented evidence that their members cannot comply with the crane ordinance and as a result they will be precluded from working in the county.”

While Miami-Dade’s regulations have been blocked by the courts, attempts by Rep. Greg Evers to launch statewide crane safety legislation have been halted by opposition from Dade County representatives, who argue the Florida legislation isn’t tough enough. Florida’s House of Representatives twice voted in favour of the legislation, but were blocked by opposition from Dade County legislators at the state Senate. The conflict leaves both sets of legislation blocked.
