The accident happened when a team of workers from crane and haulage company Elliott Bros went to Margate to move a 6.5t boat (7USt). Keith Mitchell, 44, was hit by the boom as it tipped over while lifting the load.
An expert from Workplace Standards Tasmania (WST) has given evidence to a court to determine if operator error was the cause of death.
A spokesman for the WST told Cranes Today: “As this accident is still before the courts, no comment can be made until the coroner has brought down a verdict.”
The inquest has been adjourned to January 10 for a report to be prepared on the boom articulation and rope issues.
The WST is a division of the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources and is responsible for administering much of the legislation that regulates business in Tasmania.
Margate is a small seaside town located on the Channel Highway between North-West Bay and the Snug Tiers, 5km south of Kingston.
