The QW4 platform topsides was carefully positioned above the legs of the previously installed jacket structure and lowered over the ten pre-drilled wells.
The several-hour procedure on February 9 involved the use of heavy lift crane barge from the Abu Dhabi, UAE-based National Petroleum Construction Company. The crane barge, the HLS 2000, can lift 2,500 tonnes.
The topsides is part of the second of three new wellhead platform topsides in the field, 80km (53m) offshore of Qatar.
Faisal M. Al Suwaidi, chairman and chief executive officer of Qatargas said; “Qatargas 2 is a project made up of many large projects within a project. This milestone takes the project one step closer to completion. I would like to thank all the parties involved – our staff, and contractors NPCC and Technip – for their dedication to seeing this job completed safely.”
The offshore Facilities will supply the gas for the two 7.8 million tonne per annum liquefied natural gas processing trains currently under construction onshore in Ras Laffan City.
The two platform topsides installed to date were built at NPCC’s fabrication yard in Abu Dhabi.
The shareholders in Qatargas 2 are Qatar Petroleum, Exxon Mobil and Total.
