The victim was a 35-year-old man, who was working on a residential construction site in the suburb of Coatesville. He was standing on the boom of the crane when part of the frame fell and struck him on the head. He was killed instantly.
The DOL sent two health and safety inspectors to the site and will continue to interview witnesses and gather evidence in the coming weeks.
“The investigation into the fatality will be completed as soon as possible,” it said.
Chief advisor health and safety Mike Cosman said the man had worked for the crane company for about 12 months.
This is the 12th workplace fatality reported to the DOL already this year.
