DURING the school summer holidays UK hire company Crane Services was called on to lift new classroom buildings in the grounds of a school in Leeds.
Using its 500t-class Liebherr LTM 1500, which has an outrigger footprint of 10.01m by 9.6m, it was able to set up on a nearby road and lift the 5t load at a radius of 86m. The crane was rigged with 135t of ballast and the main boom fully retracted but with an 84m luffing jib on top of a 4m insert. Crane Services has invested £4.5m ($6.3m) on new cranes to be delivered in the next few months, including a Demag AC 350 (350t) with Sideways Superlift, two Grove GMK 6300s (300t), a Liebherr LTM 1250 (250t, with 72m telescopic main boom), and a Demag AC 160 (160t, 68m telescopic main boom).
