The crane collided with a train, on track between Paddock Wood and Gillingham, at around 10pm on 5 February 2007. According to an initial British Transport Police statement, the crane had been erected on a rail bridge, rather than a nearby road bridge. The train struck part of the crane, which had been left hanging over the train tracks, while the crane was used to inspect the bridges. A 17-year-old man suffered a shoulder injury, and needed to be taken to hospital. The train was damaged, and the train driver and conductor were treated for shock.
The crane driver was arrested at the time of the accident, and will appear before the court today.
