The 240ft tall and 90ft wide ship-to-shore cranes were carried to Mobile from Shanghai fully assembled, aboard the M/V Zenhua 7. With a 150ft boom length, the cranes are able to lift containers of up 61 US ton, reaching over 18 container widths.
Mobile Container Terminal is due to open this summer. Owners Mobile Container Terminal, LLC, say the terminal will “Offer an improved option in the US Gulf for reaching Midwest markets as well as Alabama and neighbouring states. A 45ft channel and 2,000ft of deepwater berth will ensure MCT is able to handle most post-Panamax vessels.”
