The road, which runs through all of Dubai, was shut while workers cut up the luffing jib and boom of the Sumitomo crawler crane and removed it from the site.

“RTA has opened an inquiry into the reasons for the accident and focused its initial efforts on removing the crane and debris from the site and reinstate traffic flow.” said Abdul Majeed Al-Khaja, CEO of the Roads and Transport Authority.

“All equipment used in the project are subject to initial test by security and safety units of both the consultant and the contractor of the project before NOCs [notices of consent] are issued for their deployment at site. Moreover, all operators are accredited and certified to use these machinery [sic],” he added.
