Demag Cranes & Components claims that its new DR wire rope hoist, designed for monorails, is more efficient, faster and longer lasting than other hoists in its class.

Following market research, the travel speed has been increased to 30m/min, and lifting speed to 6m/min. Frequency inverter control makes long and cross-travel speeds infinitely variable. Demag claims that the smooth handling characteristics reduce the mechanical load on the crane installation and result in 20% higher handling rates.

An integrated monitoring system is fitted as standard, enabling operating parameters of the hoist and the entire crane installation to be read via remote diagnostics. How much the crane has worked, what loads have been lifted and the condition of the brakes are among the data that can be recorded for preventative maintenance purposes.

Demag says that it has also increased the rope hoist service life by 20%, giving it a service life of 1,900 hours at full load, which it says is 300 hours more than the usual value found in the market.

The monorail hoist and crane package can be supplied with a conventional control pendant suspended from a cable or with radio remote control. Signal transmission is via a CAN bus system.

The DR wire rope hoist series initially has three models: DR3, DR5 and DR10, with load capacities of 3t, 5t and 10t respectively, each available in two drum lengths with a 6m or 10m hook path.

The DR rope hoist will replace the corresponding DH rope hoists and larger capacities up to 100t will follow later.
