In the past, the manufacturer has offered a crane of this capacity class, the AC 80-2. Explaining the reasons behind the launch of this model, product marketing manager Michael Klein said that the “worldwide success” of the previous model showed there’s significant demand in the market for an 80t all terrain crane. “In fact, a large number of customers kept confirming this time and time again,” he added.

The Demag AC 80-4 features a 60m main boom and with some configurations it can reach up to 120t, which the manufacturer says it is the longest in its class.  “In the class of up to 100t no other crane comes close to its lifting capacity with a fully extended boom up to a radius of 30m. The AC 80-4 can lift an impressive 5.4t at a radius of 14m. It also raises the bar with its main boom extended to 50 m: At a radius of 10m, it can lift 9.7t, which is 2.2t more than the next most powerful competitor.” said Demag. The main boom can be lowered up to 3° below its horizontal position

The reach can be expanded with a 6.5m main boom extension that can be offset by 25° and 50°, with capacity of 23.8t. In addition, there is a 1.5m runner with a capacity of 26.6t available for the Demag AC 80-4.

The new model has a compact design; its total length is 12.15m, its width is 2.55m, the carrier length is 10.6m, its height does not exceed 3.85m, and the front overhang is a modest 1.49m.

The AC 80-4’s counterweight design makes it possible to have a maximum counterweight of 17.7t. On the road, it can transport up to 9.3t of this counterweight itself while remaining under a 12t-axle load limit, while also carrying the 6.5m swing-away jib. This configuration includes a three-sheave hook block on board. “With this equipment, the AC 80-4 can take care of a broad range of lifts by itself in many European countries without requiring the use of expensive escort vehicles,” Klein added. When staying under an axle load limit of 10t, it can carry 3.3t of counterweight.

The AC 80-4 is equipped with a Mercedes-Benz engine, it generates a maximum power of 340 kW (462 PS) and delivers a maximum torque of 2,200Nm. The diesel engine conforms to EU Stage V emission requirements.

“With twelve forward speeds and two reverse speeds, all-wheel steering as standard, and two or three driven axles, this makes the AC 80-4 perfectly suited not only to the challenges of rough terrain at work sites, but also to fast travel on highways and long-distance drives,” said the manufacturer.

The model is equipped with a number of systems such as: the Demag Surround View, the IC-1 Plus and Flex Base outrigger system. In addition to the IC-1 Plus control system, the crane is available with the IC-1 Remote telematics solution.  Also available for the for the AC 80-4 is the E-Pack, an electro-hydraulic system designed to be connected to the crane. It comes with an integrated 32kW electric motor.
