The Windows-based Desktop-Crane software is designed for users who are not familiar with CAD-based drawing tools and it uses a drawing tool called SimCAD. It also includes a report editor. An automatic file recovery feature is also new.

Designer K.F. Leong said that he has been a crane planner for 10 years. The first version of the software came out in 2002. The latest version costs $1,200, plus $500 per extra user.
