Turkish crane and transport company Sarilar Heavy Lift has put its new Demag CC 2800 crawler to work on two refinery sites. Firstly, in Syria, erecting two gas columns weighing 130t and 230t each. Main lifter was the CC 2800, supported by Sarilar’s AC 1600 as the auxiliary crane. The columns had to be transported on a 20-axle low-loader over a distance of 550km from the port of Tartus across country to Deir-Azzor where the 600t crawler was ready and waiting. Then it was on to the next job, and the next refinery, in the Turkish city of Izmir. Equipped with an 84m main boom and superlift, and rigged with a 250t counterweight, the CC 2800 erected three columns, the heaviest weighing 210t and measuring 70m in length. Following this, to install a 150t three-section processor facility, the CC 2800 was re-rigged with 70m of luffing jib to give the necessary working height of more than 130m. Support this time came from a CC 1800 supplied by GH Heavy Lift from Saudi Arabia.
