Energoutilaj began business in 1949 as a state owned company in Bucharest, Romania. It was established to provide equipment to the Investment Division of the Romanian electric power sector. Dorel Bajaliu, general manager, discusses its development
We participated in the construction of power grids, hydraulic stations and power plants when the company was state owned. We held the entire range of equipment necessary on site: bucket cranes, bulldozers, front loaders, mobile cranes, trucks for carrying building materials and overweight cargo.
From 1949 to 1989, the company expanded in accordance with the demand of the domestic construction market, the decisions being made at state level. During the period of maximum expansion, the company held over 5,000 machines of various types and had branches over the entire territory of Romania.
In December 2003, when the Romanian state sold the majority share package Energoutilaj became a member of the American group NHC Advisors, represented in Romania by Broadhurst Investments, which holds over 94% of the shares. Presently, our fleet includes 24 mobile cranes (16-300USt) and 8 trucks for overweight cargo (50-80USt).
As was the case with other equipment rental companies, the year 2010 was a year of redefining Energoutilaj under the market conditions generated by the crisis. Although the building sector evolved beneath Energoutilaj’s expectations in 2011, the company found solutions to develop its activity, both by increasing the turnover (which it increased by 20% as compared with 2010) and
diversifying the service range. In that context, our relationship with German firm Schuch Gruppe started in 2011 and has led to the transfer to the Romanian market of a Grove 5220 truck crane. We hope to extend this partnership to works in the energy sector, which would include the transfer to the Romanian market of cranes larger than 500USt.
There is still an uncovered demand for large cranes on the Romanian market and the capacity for covering it by internal supply is small. We are still open to cooperation with domestic or foreign companies sharing these values with us.
