Italian manufacturer Isoli, which specialises in military vehicles and rescue cranes, has teamed up with Tadano Faun of Germany to win an order for 15 cranes from the Italian government’s ministry of defence.
The cranes all have a rated capacity of 50t at 3.5m radius and are designated ATF 60-3S (where S is for special).
Faun said that the cooperation came about because Faun had the crane but Isoli had the contacts and experience of supplying the Italian army. Faun has supplied several armies around the world, but never Italy before.
To meet the specification of the Italian Army, the ATF 60-3S has a 32.7m telescopic main boom and 7.2t maximum counterweight to meet the required maximum axle loads of 13t while travelling complete with military equipment and a 9m boom extension. At the same time, the ATF 60-3S comes with higher-capacity lifting charts than those of the standard Faun ATF 60-3 with 6.1t of counterweight.
Isoli’s contribution to the project included extensive testing and putting the machine through approval inspections in Italy.
