FAVELLE Favco USA has added the options of an auger attachment and a non-offsettable telescoping jib to increase the appeal and versatility of its telescopic boomed crawler cranes.

The Favco crawlers are built using an excavator-based power module supplied by Caterpillar Industrial Products. The telescopic boom is supplied by Manitowoc’s boom truck factory in Texas. Capacities offered are 30 US ton (the model 30T), 40 US ton (the 40T), 50 US ton (the 50T), and 60 US ton (the 60T). Favco has also marketed lattice boom versions but is today concentrating its efforts on promoting the telescopic models.

The self-stowing auger drive is offered as an option on the 30T and 40T models. This feature is aimed at contractors installing power lines.

To date Favco has used a McMillen 14K2 two-speed auger drive but says that any appropriate auger can be fitted, to suit customer preference. The operator has a proportional control from a pedal, and at a maximum hydraulic flow of 4.6 litres/sec (60gpm) the auger has a high speed of 59rpm or a high torque of 1,936kg/m (14,000lb/ft). An hydraulic tool circuit assembly is also an option for operating auxiliary tools.

The jib option on the model 30T adds an additional 7.9m to 14m (26ft to 46ft) to the main boom’s standard 28m (92ft) tip height.

With the 40T model, which has a 30.5m (100ft) four-section main boom, the optional telescopic jib adds 9.3m to 16.8m (30ft to 55ft).
