Luxembourg-based trailer manufacturer Faymonville has launched a new version of its Megamax semi-trailer with two rotating axles at the rear.

Although a trailer with double swing axle weighs 500kg more than two beam axles, it can carry about 3.5t more; 12t per swing axle instead of 10t per beam axle.

The swing axles can turn 60 degrees and come in two sizes, 17 1/2-inch and 19 1/2-inch diameter wheels. The smaller wheels have a minimum loading height of 1,050mm; the larger 1,120mm. With the larger wheel size, the trailer can carry up to 15t per axle.

The semi-trailer is 16.5m long, the maximum authorised length, and has a screw neck technology removable gooseneck which enables coupling to an 8x4 tractor unit. It will be shown at the IAA show in a version with double-extendable bed.

Faymonville is now planning a version of the Megamax with three swing axles.
