Thirty axles in a Felbermayr convoy turn a corner

The larger was 7.1m (23ft) in diameter, and weighed 193t (213 US tons). For this load, Felbermeyr set up two bogies of 12 axle lines of a special Goldhofer THP/ST split trailer. The load mounted on turntables at front and back. The two trailers were offset to the side by half a trailer width. Two four-axle trucks with combined total of 1,330hp pulled the load. For the smaller load, 6.1m in diameter and weighing 160t, it set up 16 axles of THP/LTSO trailer and two four-axle prime movers with a combined total of 1,200 hp.

It took a team of 10 people seven months to work out the route and to prepare the way for the reactor transport. There were 10 bridges to cross.

Felbermayr convoy gets some help from a third prime mover during a long incline

The only major problem reported was encountered on the larger load. The convoy did not have enough power to mount a 2km grade, so a third prime mover with 600hp was added to the front of the convoy.
