The first cranes to be produced in the Rostock factory were shipped in September — three rail-mounted slewing cranes, models TCC, CBS and 3100-60 for delivery to Venezuela.
Liebherr commenced production in Rostock in March 2005 and is currently concentrated in one workshop in which steel construction, mechanical assembly and painting are carried out.
Both the large assembly workshop and the administration building are currently under construction and shall be completed by the end of the year — according to the plans.
Due to the positive order situation in the maritime market, Liebherr-Werk Nenzing decided to start production in Rostock earlier than originally planned. At the moment, 214 employees are in Rostock, 50 of which are leasing personnel. Further employees are being trained in Nenzing, Austria.
The cranes, mounted on travelling gantries, have a maximum lifting capacity of 60t (66USt) at an outreach of 18m. They are the first rail-mounted slewing cranes to be delivered to South America, where they will be used as shipyard cranes at the Dianca shipyard, Puerto Cabello.
In order to ensure that the cranes can manoeuvre between two docks the gantries have been designed to enable them to travel round curves. This also allows for heavy loads of up to 120t (132USt) to be carried out by two cranes in a tandem lift.
The erection of the cranes started last month and they shall be operational by the end of this year.
